Jack the Labrador Retriever
A 10 year old neutered male Labrador Retriever, named “Jack”, was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma from a thyroid gland scan and was surgically removed. Regular follow up rechecks of blood profiles were unremarkable and isoprostane biomarker enzyme levels (i.e. CellBIO) were checked every 4 months to identify any return of cellular oxidative stress to predict the potential return of the tumor.
A recheck thyroid scan revealed several tiny spots of undetermined origin, but the isoprostane level remained low for nearly a year. Then, suddenly, his isoprostane level increased dramatically 7-fold.
He was treated with a diet change to reduce the fat content and increase the bioavailable protein and carbohydrates, along with the addition of antioxidant and anticancer supplements (curcumin, co-enzyme Q10 and astragalus plus a medicinal mushroom extract). His isoprostane level has been cut in half and re-scintigraphy of the thyroid gland was unchanged. The new cancer diet and supplements are continuing.
